How the list splits
Sorted by appliance, not by symptom
A built-in refrigerator and an undercounter drawer share a badge and almost nothing else. The drawer breathes through a four-inch grille under a worktop, the column has a whole cabinet run pressing in on it, and the wine cabinet is judged on how steady it holds rather than how cold it gets. Grouping the work by appliance keeps those differences visible instead of flattening them into one page about cooling.
Which is why every page below starts with the thing itself — where its condenser is, what its evaporator has to do, what usually gives out first — and only then gets to the visit.
The honest part
What decides whether a repair is worth doing
Three things, in this order. Whether the failure is a component or the sealed system. Whether the part is still made for that platform, or has to be sourced from what remains of it. And how much cabinetry has to come apart to reach the failure, because a fan motor behind a fixed panel is a different afternoon from one behind a grille.
A repair is usually the clear answer when:
- the compartment still pulls down, just not far enough — that is airflow, defrost or a seal, and all three are components
- the fault appeared suddenly on a unit that had been steady for years, which points at one part rather than at age
- the cabinet is panelled or integrated, where replacement drags joinery and worktop into the job
- the platform is recent enough that the board, the fan and the valve are all still catalogued
Before you ring
Two minutes that change what rides in the van
Find the model and serial plate — on most built-in refrigeration it is behind the upper grille, on some it is on the inner wall of the fresh-food side above the top drawer. Read us both numbers. Then say what each compartment is showing and what it is set to, and roughly when it started.
That is usually enough to narrow the fault to two candidates before anyone leaves, which decides which parts travel to the first visit rather than the second.
